Angry Birds

This month for Third Sunday Dinner, my mom gave me this idea based on America's new favorite past-time...
That's right, Angry Birds. It's definitely taking over EVERYTHING! Good thing it's a fun game :) So we'll take a quick tour through the levels...

Now the blue ones that multiply:
Then my favorite, the ones that accelerate and break through all the wood barriers:
And the mean (and laughing) little piggies:
The whole group that joined us for dessert:

Red Velvet

JULY 2011

I finally did it. Cupcakes from scratch. Not to give away all my secrets, but cake mixes really do make great cupcakes. Instead of decorating for this month's family dinner, I wanted to make a good Red Velvet cupcake (since everyone on Cupcake Wars can do that!). And I thought they were pretty good. Usually I don't really eat any, but I had two of these.

The frosting wasn't fancy or anything, but it was good.

I was a little nervous about taking them because I wasn't sure if they were good or not. Luckily I had a great taste tester from the Stakland family.

I think she liked them :)

Wise Guys

JUNE 2011

Obviously there would be no holiday unless I made some ridiculous cupcakes. Don't worry, Father's Day was a success! I made Wise Guys for all the wise guys in my family...

Monster Mash

MAY 2011

My cousin Kelsey and I have a joke going that whenever I make treats for our family's Third Sunday Dinner, she actually made them. Sounds lame, but I promise, it's fun for her and me. So this time, "she" made Monster Cupcakes!

This little guy got in trouble for making a mess. (Actually a friend at work wanted to see them, so I saved him one.)
And they all congregated...
For the Monster Mash :)
I won't lie, the cupcakes didn't turn out quite as good as I hoped because I used a different type of recipe. But I think the decorations are still fun ;)

Katz

APRIL 2011

Back in April, we were waiting to hear where Marcus would intern for the summer-- it was an intense time :) We were so excited when CooperKatz offered him an internship in New York City, so we had to have themed cupcakes! (Plus I think at about this time, we adopted our wonderful kitty Chicago.)

Fish

MARCH 2011

More cupcakes-- Dr. Seuss style!

One Fish
Two Fish
Red Fish
Blue Fish
Fishies!!!
The left over M&M's. Just a couple :)
And for the record, I thought they were really good!

Ants

APRIL 2010

Another basic attempt. But this time, there was coconut flavoring involved.

... and ANTS! :) We had a whole colony of them. Haha.

They were actually pretty good. (This was the beginning of the Staklands being my taste-testers. If I remember right, they approved!)

Little Pies

APRIL 2010

Here's my very first attempt to decorate cupcakes with Mimi. It was a very basic recipe, and they tasted great. We had a lot of fun making them, or more, making a mess :)

Yay! I love fruit/chocolate pies :)

The Beginning

I've been having a blast making, and sometimes more just frosting, cupcakes. I have several books (and a binder I've made from pictures online) to get ideas and recipes. I make at least one a month, but I spend way more time planning out the next one. :) Usually it's just a new way to decorate, but as I get "more experienced" with cupcakes, I want to try fancier recipes. It's been a slow process because I can only convince Marcus to eat so many (haha), but you'll see definite improvements. I've already made several different ones which I've posted on our family blog, so I'll cut and paste those for starters.
